The Market is Open!

This post expired on May 06, 2023.

Greetings All:

Although you are just getting this Newsletter (Sunday evening/sometime tonight or perhaps Monday), the Market has been open since Saturday!

The reason for the delay? I was in the grips of a Writer’s block Friday and Saturday morning – I know – hard to believe (but true) and a DSL line that constantly goes up and down when it rains. The past 2 days have been worse than normal, but I guess with all of the rain we have had, it was to be expected. Yes, I have called AT&T and eventually they will get it back up (until it goes down A G A I N) – and then hopefully I will have enough time to get this message out before I become DSL-less. It does fine in non-rain weather!

Now – If you want to skip reading my musings, which do include Market News, Weekly Specials, Farmer of the Week information, news about upcoming Events and Classes, little known facts and tidbits about ‘this and that’ then click Take me to the Market. You can access this and other Newsletters/Blog postings by clicking on the Weblog tab on the website!

For those of you still with me, grab a cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate made with rich and creamy goat milk and read on!

Market was busy and fun this past Thursday! Mary and I both enjoy getting to speak with you, share ideas and recipes and answer questions! We have reorganized a bit to make it a little easier to get your order together and having Betsy Blankenship as our trusted helper sure makes things easier!

Classes

Where are you on your journey to get away from processed foods? What do you know about GMO’s? How do you ensure that the food you are feeding the people you love most are not laden with chemicals and ingredients that are hard to pronounce much less understand? The first class that we are offering is entitled GMOOMG…What the World Am I Eating?!? and it promises to be an hour full of great information, hand-outs, good discussion and reference materials! The class will focus on the definition of GMO, the difference between Organic and GMO, where GMO’s hide in everyday products and how to avoid those traps. The cost of the class is $5 if you add it to your shopping cart or $10 if you simply show up for class! There are 2 dates available: May 7th or 14th! Both classes will start at 7:00 p.m. at Gwinnett Gymnastics Center! When you reserve your spot, please put your preferred date in the Comments Section Both Mary and I will be tag-teaming for this class! Find the class listed under Event Reservations on the Market page.

Want to try your hand at making cheese? Mary, our resident expert Cheese Maker is offering Cheese Making 101 on May 11th! In this 4 hour class from 9 to 1, you will learn how to make Chevere, Mozzarella and Ricotta and take the fruits of your labor home with you! This is the first in a series of classes Mary will be offering! Participation in other Cheese Making classes make this one a “must-do”. Here you will learn the basics, the principles of the art of making cheese! Class size is limited to 6 people, so reserve your spot early! The fee for the class is $50 which includes supplies! What do you need to bring? A stainless steel pot to take home the Chevere, your self, notebook and pen and an apron! Mary will email all participants with all the details! I will be there – as a helper and student! Find this class listed under Event Reservations on the Market page.

Anyone registering in May for a any class will be entered in a drawing to win a Bundle of Organic Spices!

Market News

Heritage Farm is taking orders for meat this week! Please remember that we are on a bi-weekly delivery schedule, so check your freezer and plan accordingly!

Weekly Specials: Goat Milk from Little Tot’s Estate will be available Buy One – Get One Free again this week! Rusty has decided to let more of the does remain in milk for a bit longer – this is especially good news for people who have pets that love goat milk, those of us who are happy to drink it and people who have pets that love goat cheese! This is the best Goat Milk I have ever tasted! (All Goat Milk is labeled for ‘Pet Consumption’ as required by the Georgia Department of Agriculture and is the only way raw milk can legally be sold in the state of Georgia.) Mary and daughter Lea were out at the Farm today and picked up 10 gallons to make cheese! That is a LOT of cheese! Wow, Kirby, Murphy and Leah’s dog, Broccoli are going to be happy, fat, little goat-milk-cheese-campers! Perhaps they will share with Dudley. Leah was not happy to learn that the baby Nigerian Dwarf ‘kid’ that she found quite adorable is moving to Alabama soon! I tried to post the picture in this Newsletter, but my html skills are not quite proficient enough to accomplish that task! I will try to get it up on the Market soon!

An update on the Black Lab and Goat Milk – thievery did take place this past Friday evening! I must learn NOT to set my milk on the end table next to my chair! Oh, the joys of sharing my home with Dudley! He does make me laugh tho’ and scares the crows and is an excellent guard dog and buddy – so I’ll keep him around.

Phoenix Gardens is offering 6 Heirloom Veggie Seedlings at $10.00! The seedlings are good sized and ready to plant. Four different varieties of Tomatoes and 2 varieties of Summer Squash will be welcome additions to your harvest this summer! This is a fantastic opportunity to get GMO-Free seedlings! Be sure and indicate the NAMES of the seedlings you would like in the Product COMMENT section!

Mother’s Day is Sunday! Choose a Mother’s Day Gift Bag from Good Shepherd Herbals which contains many herbal items (3 goat milk soaps in yummy scents, a jar of Beulah Balm and a bag of Wise Woman Tea) – a $37 value for $30! This is a perfect gift for Mom!

My Daily Bread has a Breakfast Basket just for Mom! Imagine presenting her with a basket filled with goodies like Cinnamon Rolls with delicious cream cheese icing, a loaf of Chocolate Zucchini Bread, a jar of homemade Jam and Glorious Morning Muffins! Or choose a Gift Certificate and let Mom shop for herself! (Hint – your chances of her sharing the goodies are greater if you are standing there holding it!) I’m just saying…

Bo and Lisa’s Lil Patch has a great special this week! Free DE (Diatomaceous Earth) with the purchase of the Pest Pistol. This is a natural way to kill fleas and other pesky critters!

Find the above items under Weekly Specials on the Market Page!

Doug’s Garden is offering a Red Rose arrangement for Mother’s Day and it is GORGEOUS!

Patchwork Pastures has several Mother’s Day offerings! Give Mom the gift of relaxation – Bath Salts of Epsom or Dead Sea Salts scented with aromatic therapeutic doTerra oils will go a long way too soothe and rejuvenate! (Hint: Then leave her be so she can relish her ‘alone time’ and enjoy her escape from life’s daily stressors!) Prices range from $8.50 to $25.00 depending on the oil combinations and type of salt. Or perhaps you would rather surprise Mom with a bundle of Grilling/Roasting/Rub Spice Blends – and let Dad fire up the grill and give Mom the day off! A bundle of 3 of these flavorful Blends is $20.00 and a Bundle of 6 Blends is $38.00. The spices are not yet listed on the Market; however, they will be available at Market pickup. You can email Mary if you would like addition information and to order! Use Market email at bottom of this email!

Mary also offers natural salts containing the vital minerals we need to survive and thrive – whether it is the Pink Himalayan Salt, Celtic Sea Salt or anyone of her flavor infused salts, you can’t go wrong. My 2 current favorites are the Thai Ginger and the Spicy Curry! Added to a Red Lentil Soup the Thai Ginger gives it a gentle, warming quality that enhances flavor and really makes this soup shine. The Spicy Curry is perfect with Lamb!

Farmer of the Week

The Farmers are still busy, so we will not be meeting any of our Farmers this week. We will have a Farmer’s Sale Table which will feature delicious goodies from My Daily Bread and the Mother’s Day Gifts Specials available from Good Shepherd Herbals, My Daily Bread and Patchwork Pastures! In addition, we will also have information about upcoming classes and will be taking reservations.

…this and that…

Joyful Noise Acres Farm will be processing chickens on Mary 13th. Mary Beth will be offering the opportunity to pre-order whole chickens and/or parts before Market closes this week. She is currently busy dealing with issues caused by so much rain and hasn’t had time to get things listed. JNAF will also be offering a 12 to 14 pound Bulk Package with some Pork included. For those of us who make Bone Broth – Chicken Feet, Backs and Necks and organ meats will also be available! I will send a short email as soon as things are listed.

We are working with Rusty and Lucy to arrange a Farm Tour of Little Tot’s Estate! We will tour the farm, interact with the goats and help with some chores that Rusty will assign. If you have any interest in participating, please email us at heirloomlivingmarket@gmail.com or let us know by putting I am interested in the upcoming tour to LTE. in the Comment Section when you check out! We will try and finalize the date, time and the particulars and list it under Event Reservations next week! …Talk about getting to know your Farmer!

A Final Thought…

I have finished my delicious hot chocolate made with goat milk, cocao, a little dash of cinnamon, a bit of coconut sugar, a few drops of vanilla and almond extract – a great treat for a chilly, rainy day! As you can tell the “writer’s block” has been resolved and I am chatty once again! So, it is time to say – thank you for taking the time to read this missive and…

Again, please know that we appreciate your support of our dedicated, LOCAL Farmers/Growers and Artisans and the local economy! Please “Like” us on Facebook and continue to share the Market with family and friends!

We will see you Thursday at Gwinnett Gymnastics Center between 4:30pm and 7:30 pm!

As always, Mary will have a couple of recipes featuring products she has purchased from the Market!

Have a wonderful week! Happy shopping!
