It has come to my attention that users who have their email set for “plain text” experience a very hard to read document (no lines between paragraphs). For Chrome users or plain text users, please go to the Market and choose Weblog…it’s easier on the eyes!

Greetings All:

What a wonderful time we had at Market on Thursday! We had a new Farmer with tasty treats to share, welcomed a new volunteer, had beautiful produce and fruit plus delicious Bakery items on the Farmers’ Sale Table, met some new folks…and a good time was had by all!

I hope that you enjoyed the beautiful weather yesterday. This day promises to be warm and sunny and tomorrow should be perfect for a BBQ to celebrate Fathers’ Day! Wishes go out to all the Dads for a very Happy Fathers’ Day!

The produce from Fry Farm and Doug’s Garden was plentiful, fresh and beautiful! Combined with the nicely packaged (and of course), yummy Bakery items and breads offered by My Daily Bread, the entire scene made an striking impact on people when they walked in the door! We had some produce left at the end of the evening and a few Bakery items! That Farmers’ Table was an impressive sight and God bless Linda — she got a few pictures! Check out our Facebook Page!

Shalley Carrell of Carrell Farms was our Farmer of the Week and offered tasty Buffalo Con Queso Dip so folks could taste Water Buffalo! A good number of customers bought meat from Shalley and we are looking forward to hearing about your experiences!

Gratitude

Thanks go out to Linda Golliher who assisted with the organization of Market setup and was there when Market opened to assist in getting orders out to customers.

A special thank you to Cristal McCoin, who was at Market pickup assisting customers getting their orders, toting purchases out to cars, keeping the tables organized and helped us close Market, break down displays, pack up and break down tables – a huge job! We are so grateful for your help!

Welcome

This week we welcome Shalley and David Carrell of Carrell Farms, Farmers and Producers of Water Buffalo! Mary and I both tried a number of products and were so pleased with the taste and quality, we invited them to join our other outstanding Farmers/Growers and Artisans and we are so excited that they have become part of our Market Family! Our trip to their Farm was a wonderful experience and we hope that we can offer the same opportunity to you in the near future! Welcome David and Shalley!

We also welcome Donna and Patrick of Hidden Springs Farm! They offer Honey and have over 200 hives on their Farm! Donna writes: “… we would like you to discover the huge importance of honeybees to the world and to each and every one of us. As honeybees are responsible for almost 2/3 of all fruits and vegetables produced, we should be more protective of this incredible insect.” The Strawberry Honey is delicious!! Welcome Donna and Patrick! We can’t wait for you to teach us about honeybees when you come to Market as Farmer of the Week!

And please check in with Mary at pickup for recipes to help you make delicious meals using everything in your Produce Box!

Note: All of your produce is picked on the day that it is delivered to Market! Talk about fresh! Everything is ‘field washed’, meaning the dirt is mostly gone, but produce does need to be washed before storing!

Blackberries Vicky of Fry Farm just listed Blackberries! They are my most favorite fruit and I look forward to the harvest! I will be freezing some to see me through the winter! Can’t wait for Thursday pickup!

Blueberries Lisa of Bo and Lisa’s Lil Patch are offering fresh Blueberries! Will you get some extra to freeze or make Jam or Syrup for Pancakes and Waffles? Let us know – send pictures!

Peaches are still available! We had White Peaches delivered on Thursday from Watsonia Farms. This week I believe we will have the same variety of White Peaches; however, I have not gotten the newsletter yet letting me know what type is available. If you would like to know the variety, please email me. I got a box on Thursday and will be freezing them either later today or tomorrow. Have I told you how much I love peaches! Fresh, they are great – but come winter when I am craving some ‘summer’ fruit, grabbing some frozen peaches sure helps chase away the blues!

Raspberries We are fortunate that two of our Growers are offering this flavorful berry! Doug of Doug’s Garden, and Dabrielle and Bruce of My Daily Bread both have Raspberries again this week! Got some from both Farmers and they are outstanding!

IMPORTANT: Peaches MUST be ordered by Tuesday Morning at 9:00am

.
Although our Peaches for our Market are picked on Thursday morning, Brandon needs to know our numbers so they can plan the Harvest! You can purchase them by the pound or by the box (16lbs)!

Weekly Specials

Rusty has once again blessed us with the Buy One – Get One Free deal for Goat Milk from Little Tots Estate! (All Goat Milk is labeled for ‘Pet Consumption’ as required by the Georgia Department of Agriculture and is the only way raw milk can legally be sold in the state of Georgia.)

And the weekly update on The Black Lab and Goat Milk – I don’t know if it was the Vigilance Coffee from the Roastin’ Fool or the Goat Milk from Little Tots Estate or the great combination – but my furry friend drank a half cup of MY coffee this morning at 5:45am! I hadn’t even gotten a sip! He is, as I write this, patrolling the fence line of the property (1 acre) and won’t even come in for Breakfast! I think he may be a little hyper from the caffeine!

Patchwork Pastures has continued the GREAT deal this week on Laundry Detergent! It works, smells good and is less expensive than the yucky stuff full of chemicals that harm us. What’s not to like? The refill is also available at a discount!

Hostess Gift Bag Are you travelling to visit family or friends this summer? Choose a Hostess Gift Bag from Good Shepherd Herbals which contains many herbal items (3 goat milk soaps in yummy scents, a jar of Beulah Balm and a bag of Wise Woman Tea) – a $37 value for $30! This is a perfect gift for your special Hostess!

My Daily Bread has a Bakery Basket which would make a great graduation gift, Hostess Gift, Birthday Gift! Mary ordered one last week and called it a “Blessings Basket”! Dabrielle will customize it with whatever yummy treats, goodies, breads, jellies or jams you would like to include! You can be sure you your recipient will have their favorites! Also on Special this week is Dabrielle’s Organic Blueberry Jam! Yummy!

Bo and Lisa’s Lil Patch still has Free DE (Diatomaceous Earth) with the purchase of the Pest Pistol this week. This is a natural way to kill fleas and other pesky critters!

Find the above items under Weekly Specials on the Market Page!

Farmer of the Week

I am excited to announce that we have TWO Farmers of the Week this Thursday! Yes, David of The Roastin’ Fool along with Bruce of My Daily Bread will be at Market this Thursday! David will share samples of his wonderful coffee and Bruce will have tastes of a couple of their delicious and delectable bakery items. Plan on stopping in to say hello!

…this and that…

This past week flew by and I have not yet put up the recipes and photos submitted by Chris Weis and Margaret Mills! My apologies ladies! I will get them up very soon! Look for them on FaceBook as well as in the Recipe tab on the website.

I headed over to Lilburn to the Lilburn Farmers’ Market last evening and it is a GREAT traditional Market! Lots of interesting vendors! Two of our Farmers were there and I had a brief conversation with Shalley of Carrell Farms and was fortunate to meet David’s 2 sons! Shalley was very busy and there was great interest in Water Buffalo! Lynda Brady of B&G Farms was also there, doing a brisk business, but we did have an opportunity for a short visit! I love seeing our Farmers/Growers and Artisans at other Markets! When we support Local folks, we support them, our local economy, and the local food movement!

I met several Artisans that Mary and I will be meeting with in the next couple of weeks. We are doing our best to make the Market offerings an excellent resource for great organic products at reasonable prices.

After returning from Market Thursday evening, I fed the Black Lab and let him outside. The back (almost acre) is fenced with a combination of horse fencing and chain link. Because Dudley has a propensity to dig (sigh), I had no choice but to install an electric underground fence to ensure that he stays safe. Periodically the battery on his collar needs to be changed and I did that about a month ago…but alas, it must have been an old battery, because when I called him in later that evening, he was gone! Since it was about 11:00pm, I was worried and drug myself outside, walking back behind the small barn to make sure he wasn’t there and just being stubborn or he had gotten himself shut in one of the stalls. He was no where to be found! Did I panic? No, well, maybe a little! I did spend 2 hours looking for him and calling him to no avail! I don’t know where he spent the night, but beside being dirty and stinky, he seems to have survived the night unscathed! There are woods behind our home and I hear coyotes — and there are skunks (don’t ask me how I KNOW this) so I was happy that he came to the front door when I called him on Friday morning. He was ravenous and thirsty and I am over-joyed! Kathy at Shampooch Palace in Lawrenceville restored him to his regal self. He’s clean and we are both happy!

I have given you the news, The Black Lab update for the week, told you about Updates and Offerings, Weekly Specials, Classes, Farmers of the Week and my own personal thoughts… It is time, once again to say – thank you for taking the time to read this missive and…

Again, please know that we appreciate your support of our dedicated, LOCAL Farmers/Growers and Artisans and the local economy! Please “Like” us on Facebook and continue to share the Market with family and friends!

We will see you Thursday at Gwinnett Gymnastics Center between 4:30pm and 7:30pm!

As always, She-Who-Cooks (Mary) will have a couple of recipes featuring products she has purchased from the Market! If you have missed any of her recipes, we will have them all at the Market for you on Thursday!

Have a wonderful week! All of the offerings with pretty pictures are out on the website, so I am not attaching the product list to this email! So, now, pop on over to the Market and check out all of the delicious offerings! Happy shopping!
Take me to the Market with Pretty Pictures.

Joyful thoughts and bountiful blessings!

~Maryanne and Mary
