Greetings All:

Market will close for ordering MONDAY NIGHT at 9:00pm! We are moving Market pickup to Wednesday because of the July 4th holiday. Many of our Farmers and Growers have traditional Markets already scheduled on that day. Since they have graciously agreed to deliver to us, we want to give them extra notice. This will make it easier for them to gauge their available harvest for the other Markets and for us! Thank you to our Farmers and Growers for making their offerings available, for all of their dedication and hard work to bring fresh, local, seasonal food to our tables!

Be sure and remember to order meat for that special 4th of July celebration! We have many choices from our wonderful Meat Farmers/Producers!

What fun we had at Market this past Thursday! Although we had no Farmer of the Week, things were hoppin! My Daily Bread had their famous Cinnamon Rolls and Chocolate Zucchini Bread on the Farmers’ Sale Table and they were an instant sell-out! Keep those goodies coming Dabrielle and Bruce! We love them! Vicky and Matt Fry of Fry Farm and Doug Ruling of Doug’s Garden filled the remaining space on the table with some gorgeous, fresh, organic produce and people couldn’t stop talking about how much they appreciate the Farmers’ efforts in growing such delicious fruits and veggies!

Now – If you want to skip reading the rest of my musings, which do include Market News, Weekly Specials, Farmer of the Week information for this Thursday, news about upcoming Events and Classes, little known facts and tidbits about ‘this and that’ and links to interesting Blogs and/or articles, and a personal note from me then click Take me to the Market.

You can access this and other Newsletters/Blog postings by clicking on the Weblog tab on the website!

Still here? Great! Grab a small large glass/cup of your preferred beverage and let’s get to it! There is much information to share this week, so read on!

Gratitude

A special thank you to both Kathie Bennett and Sarah Rockey! These ladies were our Volunteers this past Thursday and did a fabulous job is setting up and organizing the displays as well as each customer’s order! Although Market setup and pickup is fast-paced and crazy at times, Sara and Kathie took it all in stride and kept us on track in order to serve you! Please accept our heartfelt appreciate for your help!

Welcome

Thursday also brought the delivery of delicious, fresh raw milk from Cedar Rock Dairy. Sam’s helper, Benny brought the milk, toted it inside and assisted us with getting it all iced down! He also picked up our MANY labeled Mason Jars so we can order our milk in glass jars this week. Thanks Benny, it was great meeting you and we look forward to seeing you on Wednesday! Sam’s ‘girls’ graze on 1200 acres of organic pasture and carry the A2 gene which make their milk easily digestible. Let us know how you like the rich and creamy Jersey milk! Sam loves to get feedback, so please email us or post on the Market Facebook Page! All raw milk is labeled for Pet Consumption which is the only way raw milk can legally be sold in the state of Georgia. Give your pets a treat and order some today!

Updates

Milk Please note that there are 2 options for ordering milk…in a glass jar or in plastic. If you purchase your glass jars through the Market last week or brought them to the Gymnastics Center before 1:30 this past Thursday, your jars got delivered to the Farm and you can order it in glass. If you are bringing your jars to Mary’s before Wednesday morning or to the Center before 1:30 on Wednesday you will need to order in plastic. You will be able to order in glass next week. I know this can be confusing,m so please call Maryanne at 404-432-4337 if you have a question about ordering milk!

Several folks have asked about Skirt Steak… Did you know that there are only 2 ‘skirts’ per cow? Lynda Brady of B&G Farms shared that tidbit with me! Lynda has a limited number of Skirt Steaks available this week. They will go fast, so get your order in early. They will be available this week only! Get an extra one to keep in the freezer!

and they’re back… Welcome back Jay and Patti Parsons of Dances With Bees! We hope you enjoyed your vacation and are happy to see you and your offerings back on the Market this week! Check out the goodness that these folks make available for us! With this heat, I am using Patti’s Cool Mint Mist Body Spray! It really helps!

Duck Eggs There seems to be a mystery afoot around Duck Eggs! Since moving the Ducks to their new pasture, egg production has been little-to-none! Bo and Lisa have been eliminating reasons one-by-one, but alas – nothing to report this far! Could be the heat? Could be they are getting ready to molt? Could be snakes or other predators are stealing the eggs during the night! Be assured that Bo and Lisa are doing everything to get to the bottom of the “missing eggs”! Stay tuned for updates in Blogs and Newsletters!

Produce Availability

Fry Farm, Doug’s Garden and Phoenix Gardens have a plethora of gorgeous and tasty produce for us this week! Check out all of the wonderful offerings our Farmers have for us this week under Fruit and Veggies categories! There are red thumb potatoes, blue potatoes, gold potatoes, red fingerlings that are actually pink (on the inside) potatoes — That is a LOT of potatoes! Check out the non potatoes! – lots of green veggies listed, purple turnips, violetto beans, yellow squash, white onions, purple beets! Aren’t we colorful? And — we have Tomatoes! Three different varieties add to the rainbow of colorful veggies available this week! And don’t forget the Cucumbers! Ricky Brown of Back River Farm is taking a well deserved mini-vacation this week, but will return for next week’s Market!

Blackberries Vicky of Fry Farm has listed Blackberries again this week! The ones I got last week were fabulous! Some got eaten and some dehydrated to be enjoyed this winter! I will be freezing some this week also.

Blueberries Lisa of Bo and Lisa’s Lil Patch are offering fresh Blueberries! Will you get some extra to freeze or make Jam or Syrup for Pancakes and Waffles? Let us know – send pictures!

Peaches are still available! We had FreeStones delivered on Thursday from Watsonia Farms. This week we will have both White Peaches and Freestone varieties available. Be sure and put your preference in the Comment section for the product on the Check Out page! Have I told you how much I love peaches! My peach inventory in my freezer is almost complete; I will add a few more jars this week and am going to try dehydrating. I will let you know how that turns out!

Raspberries Last week I reported that Raspberries are done for the season. Dabrielle of My Daily Bread says: “…they are gone for this round..” (and here I thought “rounds” were just relative to golf and bridge!) Look for Raspberries again soon!

Weekly Specials

Rusty is blessing us one last week with the Buy One – Get One Free deal for Goat Milk from Little Tots Estate! This is absolutely the final week for this great deal! We congratulate Rusty on his inclusion in the Suwanne Locally Grown Market! Although the BOGO is going away, even at full price, this goat’s milk is an awesome deal! As you have read numerous times, it truly is the best goat milk I have ever had! And…it makes fabulous cheese! (All Goat Milk is labeled for ‘Pet Consumption’ as required by the Georgia Department of Agriculture and is the only way raw milk can legally be sold in the state of Georgia.)

The Black Lab is a little upset with his ‘person’ (that would be me)! I brought home a Scruffy (turns out that was his name, little rag-a-muffin who was sitting in an intersection by my house yesterday! Initially, Dudley was neither impressed nor pleased! After about 3 hours of going door-to-door around the area where I found him and leaving a note when folks were not at home (after all it was Friday night), I got lucky and “Scruffy” was happily reunited with his family! Turns out he is an escape artist! He is an adorable little dog and I was happy that I found his ‘people’! Upon my return from returning Scruffy, The Black Lab went outside and stayed for about 4 hours despite repeated attempts to lure him inside! (I got the message and he got some extra goat milk as an apology!)

Hostess Gift Bag Are you travelling to visit family or friends this summer? Choose a Hostess Gift Bag from Good Shepherd Herbals which contains many herbal items (3 goat milk soaps in yummy scents, a jar of Beulah Balm and a bag of Wise Woman Tea) – a $37 value for $30! This is a perfect gift for your special Hostess! Dena has many Medicinal Teas, tinctures, Salves and Ointments available on the Market. I use the Trauma Balm to keep arthritis pain and sciatica at bay!

My Daily Bread has a Bakery Basket which would make a great Hostess Gift or Birthday Gift! Mary ordered one recently and called it a “Blessings Basket”! Dabrielle will customize it with whatever yummy treats, goodies, breads, jellies or jams you would like to include! You can be sure you your recipient will have their favorites!

Bo and Lisa’s Lil Patch still has Free DE (Diatomaceous Earth) with the purchase of the Pest Pistol this week. This is a natural way to kill fleas and other pesky critters!

Find the above items under Weekly Specials on the Market Page!

Farmer of the Week

We will welcome Lisa of Bo and Lisa’s Lil Patch as our Farmer of the Week this Wednesday! Be sure to say hello and get a taste of their yummy Blueberries and their fantastic Blueberry Honey! Is something added to the Honey to give it that touch of Blueberry flavor? No, of course not! Their bees have access to acres of Blueberry bushes. It is astoundingly good!

Personal Thoughts and…this and that…

heirloom as defined by Webster: "something valuable that has been in the possession of a family for a long time and has been passed on from one generation to the next…be it a treasured piece of jewelry, a book, a wedding dress, christining gown or a recipe! Many items become “heirlooms”.

Heirloom Living Market was created in order to give you, the community a resource for obtaining local, fresh, chemical/pesticide/medication/GMO Free foodstuffs to feed your families and offer educational opportunities to assist you in learning how eating of the seasonal, local harvest goes hand in hand with your health. By using the local harvest that is available to us in any given season and by preserving those foods only available locally at certain times of the year, we can greatly lessen our dependence on processed and manufactured foods. We return to the fundamentals; we get to know that Farmer that plows and plants and harvests our food. The Farmer who purchases the cows or pigs or chickens or water buffalo, cares for them, treats and slaughters humanely comes to Market to answer your questions. Our Egg Lady who goes the extra step and feeds her chickens GMO and Soy Free Feed shares her knowledge freely with us and all we have to do is ask! Our much appreciated “Raw Milk Guys” are there for us, to answer questions, share their philosophy on raising productive, healthy animals that provide our milk and help in any way they can! Any of our great Farmers/Growers and Artisans welcome questions and are eager to share with us.

It is true that The Market is a place to pickup your ordered items, but we hope it is fostering a new sense of community. Supporting our local Farmers/Growers and Artisans is key to growing the local economy, helping the local Farmers thrive and reinforcing our freedom to choose what we put in our bodies!

Thursday we celebrate Independence Day, July 4th – a day to remember the founding fathers and say a silent prayer of thanksgiving for all who have fought to uphold the Constitution and died so that we are free! Have a Happy Fourth!

Remember – ORDERING will CLOSE Monday night at 9:00pm sharp!

I have given you the news, The Black Lab update for the week, told you about Updates and Offerings, Weekly Specials, Classes and info for the Farmer of the Week! It is time, once again to say – thank you for taking the time to read this missive and…

Again, please know that we appreciate your support of our dedicated, LOCAL Farmers/Growers and Artisans and the local economy! Please “Like” us on Facebook and continue to share the Market with family and friends!

We will see you Wednesday at Gwinnett Gymnastics Center between 4:30pm and 7:30pm!

As always, She-Who-Cooks (Mary) will have a couple of recipes featuring products she has purchased from the Market! If you have missed any of her recipes, we will have them all at the Market for you on Wednesday! Just ask! We will soon have them posted on the Recipe Tab!

Have a wonderful week! All of the offerings with pretty pictures are out on the website, so I am not attaching the product list to this email!
