Offerings you may want to check out…
Greg Hutchins of Heritage Farm has outstanding grass-fed Meats! On Special this week: 1/2 Beef and 1/4 Beef Shares! Great opportunity to stock your freezer! Be sure and check it out. If you have questions, please contact Farmer Greg directly at 770-377-5380.
Amish Cereal is on special this week. This cereal is like Grapenuts – without all of the chemicals and additives. GMO-free! Homemade Amish Noodles are also on special. Add to boiling water, cook 5 – 7 minutes and they are ready. Hearty and flavorful!
Lamb Neck Roast and Lamb Spare Ribs are also on special this week! It’s Spring! Lamb is a wonderful alternative to Beef and Pork!
Whole Chickens, part and organs will be available next month! The chickens are still growing!
Turkeys are available for Pre-Order and average about 15#‘s. In addition to whole birds, Heritage Farm will also be offering Turkey Carcasses and Ground Turkey soon! There is definitely Turkey Bone Broth in my future!
Don’t forget to check out Alpaca and Water Buffalo offerings from Carrell Farms. I am partial to the Sage and Cranberry Alpaca Sausage!
Burnell Farms is going strong bringing us some great veggies! Several weeks ago they added Hibiscus Flowers, (great for drying and making Hibiscus Tea), Fennel, ‘Violet Queen’ Cauliflower, Baby Spinach, 5 Lettuce varieties. Burnell Farms also offers: Kale and Beets! The rain has slowed other things down a bit, but given some days of sunshine, things will soon be back on track!
Vicky of Fry Farm is offering this week! Asparagus, Lettuce Mix, ‘Cherry Belle’ Radishes, ‘French Breakfast’ Radishes, Hakurei Turnips and ‘Red Kitten’ Spinach! So glad that Vicky, Steve and Matt are back and I look forward to them adding additional offerings as Mother Nature allows. Our very own Sarah Rockey is helping out at Fry Farm this year!
I have spoken with Doug of Doug’s Garden who is busy, busy, busy training new helpers and getting seedlings planted! This week he has: Green Garlic, Leaf Lettuce Mix, ‘Lancer’ Parsnips and Young and Tender Spinach!
Grow With the Flow is the brainchild of brothers Reggie and Roger Ramos. They are located in the city of Tucker and are Certified Naturally Grown! Reggie and Roger have been at the Lilburn Market since last summer and this Spring have expanded their operation to include the Crossfit Market. Please check out their Vegetable offerings.
The Veggie Patch is offering: Fruit Seedlings, Herb Seedlings, Veggie Seedlings, Fresh Herbs, Medicinal Herbs, Sauces, Pickles and lots of fresh Veggies. Be sure and check out all of their items!
Ricky of Back River Farm will be back soon!
George and Krista Jones of Cedar Seeder also known as High Garden Center have moved to a new location. Actually the move took place a while back and George has had his hands full, building and re-vamping the property! These changes will ensure that we all will be getting their fresh Microgreens very soon. Can’t wait to enjoy their Wraps again!
Last week, I wrote that Marie Wheeler of Bakery on Brooks had joined the Market last Summer – actually, it was last Winter! Wow! How time flies! We are just happy and blessed to have such a wonderful Gluten Free Baker with us!
Since I don’t feed the Black Lab Cinnamon Rolls, the package of 5 had to go in the freezer lest I eat them all in a couple of days! I L O V E Cinnamon Rolls, but, alas, they cannot be an everyday staple! While this solution was working, I wondered (out loud and in a phone call with Marie) if it would be possible to give me the rolls frozen and I could then let them rise and bake them when I wanted them. Marie gave me several as an ‘experiment’ last week! Oh. My. Goodness!!! That is what they were – pure goodness. The Cinnamon Rolls rose and I baked them in the toaster oven. Fresh Baked Cinnamon Rolls, Gluten Free – no muss, no fuss and delicious! Marie decided to put them on the Market (You can still get them already baked!) and this week, they are on special! Not only that, she has increased the offering to 6 rolls! Sweet Breakfast Treat or a quick dessert; these Gluten Free Cinnamon Rolls are tasty morsels!
While Marie is keeping us supplied with Organic Gluten Free Baked Goods, Dabrielle of My Daily Bread provides us with traditional wheat based Organic Baked Goods! From Challah, Sourdough, Ezekiel and other yummy Breads to Sweet Breads, Cookies, Jams and Jellies, Cheese Dips and Pasta Salads, Dabrielle is passionate about quality! Be sure and get your order in before close of Market!
Kathy Barnes is the Coordinator of the Lilburn Market as well as the owner of So-Koi. Kathy is an excellent seamstress and has Retro Aprons, Lanyards, Pillowcases, Checkbook Covers, Tissue Holders on the Market. She is passionate about living naturally and makes every effort to live ‘green’! Although always concerned about the use of plastic in our lives, further research lead Kathy to the decision that she wants to eliminate it as much as possible! To assist in this goal, she has created muslin Veggie Storage Bags and is now offering them at Market! Check them out on the Market and on the Farmers’ Sales Table this week at each Market! For more information about plastic and it’s horrible, destructive and toxic effects in our world and the ecosystem, click the link. This documentary is available on Netflix!
Kathy is also offering Turmeric and Cinnamon on the Market. Both are wonderful spice with medicinal components and qualities. (and the glass jars she offers these products in are just adorable!) Kathy will also be offering Coconut Sugar in the very near future. This sweetener is an excellent alternative. It’s low glycemic index and full, rich flavor make it my favorite sugar, both for baking and adding a touch to my coffee. Look for this option soon under seasonings.

I am really enjoying the Gluten Free Cinnamon Rolls offered by Marie Wheeler of Bakery on Brooks! (Actually, I enjoy all of Marie’s creations, but these rolls are such a decadent Breakfast Treat I just had to give them a special ‘two thumbs up’! Marie started baking Gluten Free items for the Market last Summer. She started out with Oatmeal Raisin, Chocolate Chip and Chocolate Chip Oat Cookies and they were so popular and delicious, Marie became inspired! Nothing is offered at the Market until it passes muster with her husband, Chuck! (Chuck does not have to eat Gluten Free, but because Marie does, he joins her! What a sweetheart he is!) It’s no wonder they recently celebrated their 40th Anniversary! Try Marie;s Breads, Cookies, Paleo Treats, new Butter Cake, Cinnamon Rolls, Cinnamon Raisin Bread – you will wonder why you waited to go Gluten Free!

Greetings All:
Farmer of the Week at Lilburn Thursday ~ Dabrielle of My Daily Bread
Come and meet the wonderful lady who bakes the organic breads and goodies that everyone loves! Dabrielle and her son, Brandon, both spend their days in the bakery to produce the wonderful offerings by My Daily Bread. Her husband Bruce is also involved in the process, assisting where needed, keep track of inventory, delivering and keeping Dabrielle on her toes! Don’t forget to check out all of the Organic Baked Goods on the Market this week and get your orders in before close. Have you tried her new Gluten Free Glorious Morning Muffins? Samples were available at Market last week and folks loved them. I am sure that Dabrielle and Brandon will have samples to share when you see them this Thursday! Get there early and say hello!
Market Tidbits…
Greg Hutchins of Heritage Farm has some new offerings: Bratwurst, Smoked Bratwurst, Smoked Polish Sausage, Sweet Italian Sausage, Bacon, Bacon (end and pieces), Jowl Bacon, Scrapple and Breakfast Links! Of course those are in addition to the other great Beef, Lamb, Pork products he has listed! I just wanted to make you aware of the additions!
Ok, for those of you who are transplanted from the North, you may be wondering: “What is Jowl Bacon?” It is Bacon that is made from the jowls/cheeks of the pig! Although I am a Texan and grew up in Ohio, our Farm produced the food that we ate and I remember my Mother and our Cook using Jowl Bacon in Beans, Black Eyed Peas and Greens. A favorite Summertime lunch was Pork Jowl Bacon and Fried Green Tomato Sandwiches! From my own experience, the fat ratio of Jowl Bacon is more than that of ‘regular’ bacon. I cook it in the oven and use a Bacon press, being sure to drain the fat several times during cooking. Cooked crispy, it is a real treat!
Don’t forget, Turkeys are available for Pre-Order and average about 15#‘s. There is a limited number available, so if you like Turkey… Not all of the Turkeys that are getting fat and sassy will be offered as whole birds. Greg has plans to offer Ground Turkey and make the bones/carcasses available for purchase. I am imagining lots of Turkey Bone Broth in my future!
Burnell Farms is going strong bringing us some great veggies! Several weeks ago they added Hibiscus Flowers, (great for drying and making Hibiscus Tea), Fennel, Kohlrabi and ’Cheddar’ Cauliflower. The beautiful and delicious ‘Violet Queen’ Cauliflower is now available! Burnell Farms also offers: Brussel Sprouts, Broccoli, several Lettuce varieties, ‘Savoy’ Cabbage, Swiss Chard, Collard Greens, Fennel, several types of Kale, Spinach and those awesome little Cream Potatoes!
Vicky, Steve and Matt Fry of Fry Farm have gorgeous and delicious ‘Red Kitten’ Spinach and Rutabagas! I was at the Farm on Thursday before Market and it is beautiful – so many veggies planted! We should be seeing Leeks very soon! Vicky had some available but not enough to offer at Market – soon, very soon!
I have always roasted the Rutabagas but Vicky suggested boiling them and mashing them! Be sure and boil until just tender in an ‘open’ pot. Placing a lid on the pan will trap in gases that will take away some of the great flavor!. Drain and mash with salt, pepper, garlic and butter! Great alternative to potatoes. Rutabagas contain high levels of antioxidants, Vitamin C, Potassium and Zinc. Rutabaga is really a cruciferous veggie. It includes phytochemicals which eliminate carcinogens in the body as well as assisting the liver in processing harmful toxins. Delicious and good for you ~ Definitely a ‘win-win’!
Yesterday, I made Rutabaga, Cauliflower and Potato Soup adding sauteed celery and onion. I served with bits of Bacon and a dollop of Sour Cream! Delicious!
I have spoken with Doug of Doug’s Garden who is busy, busy, busy training new helpers, getting seedlings planted and starting to harvest some items! Items are stating to appear on all of the Markets as produce is ready to harvest! This week Spinach and Bluebell Plants are available on all Markets!
Bluebells are one of my favorite plants and Doug’s Mountain Bells are exceptional! Although I am a Texas-Bluebell-kind-of-girl, (owing to the fact I am from the Lone Star State), I love the beauty and symmetry of Mountain (Blue)Bells! The picture was taken by Doug in his garden. Impressive!
When adding Mountain Bells or any other woodland perennials to your landscape, always plant them with companions that can take over when the early spring plants lose their luster. It’s important to have a multi-layered garden to keep year-round interest. Hostas, for instance, will just begin to shine by the time these bluebells are done.
Need Heirloom/non-GMO seedlings? The Veggie Patch has got you covered. Choose from their offerings of Fruit Seedlings, Herb Seedlings or Veggie Seedlings and plan for a successful and abundant harvest! Also check out their Veggie offerings!
Marie of Bakery on Brooks bakes Organic, Gluten-Free Breads, Cornbreads, Sweet Breads and Cookies for us. She is constantly experimenting with new items and this week you will see her Gluten-Free Gluten Free Cinnamon Rolls, Cinnamon Raisin Bread and Butter Cake in her offerings! Taste tests of the Cinnamon Rolls and Cinnamon Raisin Bread were full of “oohs and aahs” and “This is fantastic!” Be sure add to your order! These are too good to be missed!
Kathy Barnes of So-Koi and the Coordinator of the Lilburn Market has added Organic Ceylon Cinnamon to her offerings. Ceylon Cinnamon (sticks or freshly ground) is the highest quality and best tasting Cinnamon available! It has a delicate, sweet and complex flavor not found in the common Cassia Cinnamon. Kathy also offers Einkorn Grain (berries or freshly ground) and Redmond’s Real Salt in addition to her wonderful handmade Retro Aprons, Lanyards and other items!

Sunday, March 29th, was the annual Grow Your Own Food Festival at the Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center! There were local vendors selling local wares, informative presentations by locals Farmers, demonstrations and plenty of activities that were both fun and educational for both children and adults. Dabrielle and Bruce Wills of My Daily Bread had a table next to ours and Dabrielle was also a “Presenter” and taught a short class on “Grinding Your Own Grains”. Jay and Patti Parsons were also in attendance and had a wonderful display of their Honey, pure Beeswax Candles and their Natural Honey Skin and Bath Products.
Sarah Rockey and Kathy Barnes were most helpful in sharing our Market information with folks and answering questions. We met many new friends and hope they will join us in our Market family!
Market Tidbits…
Greg Hutchins of Heritage Farm made a trip up to Lexington, KY after he delivered our Market orders last Thursday. Although he had planned on making the trip earlier in the week, he and the family were sick and it had to be delayed. Your items that were pre-ordered will be delivered this Thursday. If you ordered any of the new Amish Products last week – which include Scrapple, Noodles or Cereal, they were removed from your order. Please re-order those items this week. Greg picked them up on his trip. Greg is adamant about quality both in the growing and in the processing of his grass-fed meat. While utilizing the processor in Kentucky adds many hours to his journey, he is willing to ‘go the extra mile’ for the quality of product and service they provide. When Greg came back to the Market about 4 months ago, the Bacon that was available was from the current processor. The taste as well as the cut of the bacon is awesome. Be sure and put some in your cart this week. I am also looking forward to trying some of the Sweet Italian Sausage!
Don’t forget, Turkeys are available for Pre-Order and average about 15#‘s. There is a limited number available, so if you like Turkey… Not all of the Turkeys that are getting fat and sassy will be offered as whole birds. Greg has plans to offer Ground Turkey and make the bones available for purchase. I am imagining lots of Turkey Bone Broth in my future!
Burnell Farms is going strong bringing us some great winter veggies! Several weeks ago they added Hibiscus Flowers, (great for drying and making Hibiscus Tea), Fennel, Kohlrabi and ’Cheddar’ Cauliflower. The beautiful and delicious ‘Violet Queen’ Cauliflower is available! Burnell Farms also offers: Brussel Sprouts, Broccoli, several Lettuce varieties, ‘Savoy’ Cabbage, Swiss Chard, Collard Greens, Fennel, several types of Kale, Spinach and those awesome little Cream Potatoes!

Don’t forget to check out all of the Organic Baked Goods from Dabrielle of My Daily Bread. Have you tried her Sourdough Breads? Now is a good time because they are on Special this week! Order a sliced loaf or a round artisan loaf. Delicious! Makes great toast and croutons besides being a great sandwich bread. Be sure and get your order in before close of Market! Dabrielle uses organic ingredients to make her breads, cookies, sweet breads, muffins, jams and jellies.
Marie of Bakery on Brooks bakes Organic, Gluten-Free Breads, Cornbreads, Sweet Breads and Cookies for us. She is constantly experimenting with new items and this week you will see her Gluten-Free Butter Cake on the Farmers’ Sale Table. This cake is buttery and beyond wonderful! It’s not listed on the Market quite yet, so you will need to grab one from the Table! Get there early – they will go FAST! Could Gluten-Free Cinnamon Rolls be in our future?
Kathy Barnes of So-Koi and the Coordinator of the Lilburn Market has added Organic Ceylon Cinnamon to her offerings.
