Greetings Lilburn Market Members:

I hope this finds you all well and enjoying the weekend with family and/or friends!

Please get your orders in before 6:00pm Monday!

Market Update

In the past Farmers/Growers had to deliver their items on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to accommodate each of the Heirloom Living Market pickup locations. I also spent 3 full days preparing, setting up, hauling items for Farmers for each Market in addition to the hours spent doing the back-office chores. Moving to the Mountains required a change in the operational model. The Farmers/Growers now can ‘make the rounds’ to all of the Markets on one day! Thankfully, Volunteer Coordinators have stepped up to oversee the Markets which will allow me to ‘float’ to each of the Markets.

Kathy Barnes is the Coordinator for the Lilburn Market. Kathy has been a faithful Member of the Market since its beginning in March of 2013. She is also the Artisan who owns So-Koi and provides us with custom made Lanyards, Pillowcases and Retro-style Aprons! Please put her phone number in your contact list so if you have any issues on Market day you can contact Kathy directly.

Kathy Barnes 404-492-4341

The Lilburn Market pickup is between 4:30 and 7:00pm on Thursday. If you are running late, or have an emergency and are unable to pickup during this time frame, please let Kathy know as soon as possible. The Market space must be cleaned and vacated by 7:15pm for use by another group, so it is imperative that breakdown of Market start at 6:30pm. We understand that “Life Happens” and will do our best to work with you if you have an emergency.

If no phone call is received and the items you ordered are not picked up they will be donated to The Lilburn Coop and the Volunteers. Your account will be charged. Please be respectful of our time and effort on your behalf!

Market will close at 6:00pm Monday!

Volunteers Still Needed

We are still in need of Volunteers to help with the setup of Market. Our Market Members are a community of folks who want nutrient-dense, fresh, clean food and are dedicated to eating local and supporting our Farmers and Growers. It is necessary to work as a community to continue to bring you the products you shop for each week. Please consider helping out at Market for an hour or two at least ONE Thursday each month. Duties will include: Receiving deliveries from Farmers and Growers; ensuring items are distributed correctly to each order; packaging individual meat items in bags and labeling with Member name; general setup of display items and assisting Kathy as needed. Volunteer hours are anytime between 2:00pm and 7:00pm on Thursday.

The Wallace family has been faithful and consistently generous with their time in helping to set up the Market! Nancy Tuck, Rebecca White, Susan Coker, Sue Martinson, Marie and Chuck Wheeler, Kathy and KEB BARNES all strive to make your Market experience a good one! Help us to continue to bring you local, fresh, nutrient-dense food! Get involved!

If you are interested in helping out at the Market, please contact Market Volunteer Coordinator, Chance Claar-Pressley. Thank you Chance! You can email Chance at chancita@gmail.com .

Market

Our Farmers, Growers and Producers have been very good to us; delivering orders even when there were only one or two items for the Market. The upside has been that rarely do we NOT receive items because it was not ‘cost effective’ for a Farmer to bring it to Market. The downside has been for the Farmers/Growers/Producers who have made the effort but spent more in their time and gas then the product was worth. In other words they lost money serving our needs.

I have worked to increase Market growth in the past and will continue my efforts via more listings on various internet sites. talking with Health Food Stores Owners, Herbalists, Natural Health Care Providers however, Word of Mouth advertising by our current Members is the best way to grow the Market. The effort of the Farmers, Coordinators, Market Manager and Volunteers at present far outweigh the benefits. Please do your part and pass on information about the Market to friends, family, neighbors and co-workers.

Several of our Farmers/Producers are not in the immediate area and it is not feasible for them to continue delivering if it is not cost effective for them.

Dabrielle and Bruce Wills of My Daily Bread travel from Cleveland, Georgia to bring us their delicious organic bakery offerings. Could I find a more ‘local’ organic bakery? To be honest – I have tried. The quality of products, price and commitment of others has not measured up to the standards of the Market that have always been exceeded by My Daily Bread. Dabrielle’s products reflect their passion and commitment to providing nutrient-dense, organic and delicious fare to our Members. In order for them to continue making their wonderful products available to us, a weekly minimum must be met.

If minimums are not met and you have ordered items, you will receive an email letting you know that your items cannot be delivered. Perhaps we will make items available on an every-other-week schedule if orders continue to fall below minimum. Please be assured that we are doing everything we can to provide you with what you want from the local Farmers/Growers and Producers; but, understand that Buying Local means supporting those who are committed to providing ‘Local’!

Eating fresh, clean and nutrient-dense food is a commitment – a lifestyle. It is not an easy decision to make nor live due to the time involved in creating fresh, wholesome foods rather than reaching for something that is canned, boxed or frozen that either contains GMO’s or items you are not able to pronounce. Buying local and seasonal is even more of a commitment. Cost is a consideration; however, as I check grocery store prices, it appears that our Farmers prices are a considerable bargain! Healthy eating is a sure way to cut down on health care costs! Pay the Doctor or pay the Farmer. Which choice makes the most sense to you?

I have considered creating a survey to get input from Members concerning what we can do to improve the Market. Truthfully, I detest surveys and hesitate to put the energy and effort into something that will not be read by most and answered by few; however, I do want your feedback! So, if you are reading this and you have input, send me an email at
heirloomlivingmarket@gmail.com or call me at 404-432-4337.
(Note: end of rant)

Farmer Updates

Shalley of Carrell Farms has let me know that the ‘Chubs’ of Ground Water Buffalo will NOT be available for several more weeks. Last week folks who ordered a pound of Ground Water Buffalo received a pound of Ground Water Buffalo Patties instead of the ‘Chub’ (packaged roll). This is the same product as the ground, just in different form and packaging.

Vicky Steve Fry of Fry Farm have no offerings on Market this week. Vicky’s Father had back surgery. Please keep him and the Fry Family in your prayers.

Turkey

Several people have asked about Turkey. I am working to find a local source for our Holiday Turkeys and will have more information in next week’s Newsletter. We will have a sign-up sheet for folks who are interested in finding out more about availability at Market this week. Be sure and let us know you are interested. Typically Farmers ask for a deposit, ranging from $25 – $35 when orders are placed. This amount will be paid directly to the Farmer supplying the Turkeys.

…this and that…

The Black Lab has claimed the property as his own! Since there are no ‘leash laws’ here, the sight of dogs meandering down the road behind the house has un-nerved him a bit; but he has let them know that venturing beyond the middle will not be tolerated! (Keep in mind, the yard is fenced!) The biggest issue seems to be the family of cats who live across the street and wander into our yard at night. Due to his history with a very aggressive barn cat when he was a puppy, he has a strong dislike for felines and the yard is scoured every morning to ensure only their scent remains. I shudder at the thought of what will happen if he catches a cat in the yard. So far daylight finds no cats on the property. There are horses and cattle nearby and their calls to each other have him cocking his head and listening intently. Given his affinity for horses and ability as an escape artist, I keep a pretty close eye on him when we are out in the yard! All things considered, he is doing well.

As I begin to unpack and settle in my new home, I continue to marvel at the circumstances that have brought me to this new adventure in my life. I am joyful to awaken to fresh mountain air, gorgeous sights and a sense of peace that had eluded me for some time. The prayers of all of you “Prayer Warriors” truly interceded on my behalf and God blessed me with a beautiful place to call home, friends who assisted in getting me packed up, organized and moved and who continue to encourage me and support me as I make this transition. I am humbled and eternally grateful for His blessings and your love and support.

Greetings Lilburn, Crossfit and Hamilton Mill Market Folks:

I hope this finds you all well and enjoying the weekend with family and/or friends!

Truth be told, I am slammed with packing the house and still feeling a bit overwhelmed with what it entails! It seems it is ‘never-ending’! How did I end up with so much stuff? Some things have been donated, some trashed and some put aside for the Garage/Moving/Everything-Must-Go Sale on Friday! (Yes, I know cutting it close since moving day is Saturday!) Thankfully, I have had some great help from friends – Sarah Rockey, Keb and Kathy Barnes and Austin Smith. This morning, The Black Lab and I are off to visit our new landlady and home. I have only seen pictures and Lisa and I have exchanged emails and spoken on the phone many times! We are both mostly confident that it will come to pass! I know The Black Lab will make a good impression – let’s hope I do too! If you would like to join the “Moving Party”, (next Saturday, 09-13) please email me at Email Maryanne . Thanks to those that have already agreed to help! Additional assistance would be appreciated!

Due to the time crunch I am currently experiencing, I am forgoing highlighting the individual Farmers items this week! I am sure that you will peruse the Market and shop wisely! Please know that things will be back to normal soon!

Heartfelt Gratitude

“Thank You” to Kathy Barnes, who ran the Lilburn Market on Thursday and to Bruce and Geni Wallace and sons who unloaded and set-up then returned to help load the cars and return bins to Doug’s Garden.

Lauren Stephens, our newest Volunteer helped with the packaging of Members’ meat orders and the setup of the Crossfit Market on Tuesday and then assisted Sarah Rockey at the Hamilton Mill Market! Much appreciated!

Sarah Rockey was the Star at The Hamilton Mill Market! Sarah works very hard to unload, set-up, review orders, take payments, breakdown Market and reload the vehicles. We were assisted this week by Karen Thain who is also a blessing! Thank you ladies!

Susan Martinson, a Market Member and All Saints Lutheran Church Member is also helping us a Market, setting up the Market display table as well as selling Organic, Free Trade Coffees and Teas. Do try the French Roast if you like a full-bodied yummy morning coffee! All Saints is using this endeavor as a Fund Raiser, so please take a minute and check out the products. The Congregation and Pastor Stover have been wonderful friends to the Market and are very supportive of our efforts! Let’s return the favor!

Lauren Stephens has agreed to Coordinate the Crossfit O-Zone Market, so you will see her smiling face on a regular basis.

If you have a couple of hours to spare between 10:00am and Noon on Tuesday, please consider volunteering at the Crossfit O-Zone Lawrenceville Market. This is prep and setup for the Tuesday Market as well as packaging meat orders for all Markets. Please contact Maryanne at 404-432-4337.

…this and that…

The Black Lab and the house and the yard have been ‘de-flead’ (that might not be a word, but you get the gist!) and it appears that we are staying ahead of the game! Having never experienced this gross and quite obnoxious phenomena before and it has been quite the lesson in perseverance! Sadly, I did have to resort to ‘bombing’ the house – much to my dismay; however, with the impending move, I felt I had no choice. Never fear, Mr. Dudley was only treated with natural products!

Greetings Lilburn, Crossfit and Hamilton Mill Market Folks:

I hope this finds you all well and enjoying the weekend with family and/or friends! I have been very busy trying to get my house packed up! Yes, my landlady of 7 years SOLD the house to the gentleman who had rented it prior to me! This was a shock as I wasn’t told it was in the works and I was given 30 days to vacate. I am on a ‘month-to-month’ lease and when I checked the document, sure enough, the 30 day notice is all that is required! So, long story short, I must be out by September 13th which is Moving Day! Are you free on Saturday, September 13th? Have a truck (or car) and just looking for something to do? If you would like to join the “Moving Party”, please email me at Email Maryanne . Help would be appreciated!

Farmer Ricky Brown of Back River Farm is offering Okra (admittedly not a fav of mine, but many have said it is tender and delicious), Spaghetti Squash, ‘Flavorburst’ Bell Peppers, Chocolate Bell ‘Flavorburst Peppers,(these are an interesting veggie – (somehow it has a teeny-tiny hit of chocolate in the flavor), and two varieties of Eggplant.

Cedar Seeder I have sung the praises of the Micro (Veggie) Wraps! Have you tried the Bakery Bars. Some folks are becoming seriously addicted! They also have some Fall and Winter Garden Seedlings available!

Be sure and check out the wonderful meat selections available from B&G Farms. From Pork Tenderloin, (which is delicious marinated and grilled) to the many varieties of Sausage, Pork Chops and Longaniza (hot dogs), to any cut of Beef you want, Lynda has us covered! And Chicken too! Try Chicken Wings on the grill! (Note to Bone Broth Makers: Chicken Feet are back in the offerings this week! Get your Necks and Backs this week and Chicken Feet! Makes a fabulous combo for great Chicken Bone Broth!)

David and Shalley Carrell of Carrell Farms are at our Markets as well as most of the popular Traditional Farmers’ Markets around the area! Check out their offerings from their Bulk Ground Buff to Steaks and Roasts! Try a Brisket smoked! Delicious!

When David dropped off product at Market this past week, he told me that Alpaca Meat will be available. Of course, anything new intrigues me! I asked him to send some Ground and some Jalapeno Sausage soon. The plan is to cook some up so we can all try it!

Shalley makes a wonderful line of Natural Skin Care Products using the tallow from the Water Buffalo. Her Face Creams are luscious! A couple of weeks ago I tried the Tallow Foot Butter which has Peppermint Essential Oil in it. Oh, Wow! Feels great and my feet and looking and feeling better!

Both Golden Farms and Rocky Acres offer fresh eggs from pastured chickens fed organic, soy and GMO free feed.

My Daily Bread Bruce and Dabrielle are offering lots of goodies! From Challah to Sourdough Bread, Chocolate Zucchini Bread to Cookies, Dabrielle’s Organic, Fresh Baked Goods are sure to please. I had mistakenly told you last week that they were on vacation this week; however, they will be at the Lilburn Market!

Dabrielle has created a wonderful Salsa that has been an offering on the Farmers’ Sale Table for the last couple of weeks. She will be making more, so look for it in their offerings! It is really delicious!

Please remember that in order for My Daily Bread to deliver from their wonderful Bakery and Farm located in Cleveland, GA, we must meet a minimum, so be sure and get your items ordered today!

Marie Wheeler of Bakery on Brooks has created a fabulous Gluten Free Sandwich Bread and it is now on the Market! Soft, like the bread we all love to make sandwiches with and full of flavor! Jay and Patti of Dances With Bees have Honey offerings as well as some other great products! The Candles are made of pure beeswax and the Lady Bug is as cute as it can be! I love the rolled beeswax candles also. Patti makes some awesome Personal Care products as well! Jay has managed to slip a couple of new products in his offerings! I ordered the BBQ Honey 2 weeks ago and have used it on Wings, Chicken Breasts and a Pork Tenderloin! Oh, WOW! Try this amazing Honey/Glaze! It’s subtly spicy and smokey! Wow!

The Happy Cows belonging to Sam Jones of Cedar Rock Dairy continue to produce wonderful milk (for our pets)! The cream line on the jars these last couple of weeks has been impressive! Keep up the good work, ladies! Located in Butler, Georgia, Sam’s cows enjoy grazing on 1200 acres of this Certified Organic Farm and we are fortunate that he is willing to transport this fresh, creamy milk to us. Working together, we need to ensure that we meet a minimum order for each Market so it remains economically viable for deliveries to continue! Share the goodness of Cedar Rock Dairy milk with friends and family!

Remember, you need 3 sets of jars to keep things flowing smoothly. If you order an extra one week, you likely will be missing one jar the following week. The Market can no longer absorb the cost if you receive your milk in plastic and you will be charged the difference. Your jars need to be ‘sparkling clean’ and completely dry (jar and BOTH lids)!

Raw Milk Jar System
A1 vs A2 Milk

Rusty Repp of Little Tots Estate offers the sweetest goat milk I have had since I was a child, growing up in Ohio! The milk comes from Nigerian Dwarf Goats who are known to have the highest Butterfat of any milking goats! The milk from Little Tots also makes wonderful cheese and it is great for ‘pets’ with stomach issues! To keep The Black Lab, healthy, he enjoys some everyday!

Lizzie’s Pantry provides some wonderful products from Montana Wheat! She also offers a Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Georgia Farmer. Products ordered last week from Liz were not delivered due to the death of her Mother who lived out of state. Our prayers and condolences go out to Liz and her family for their loss. Her offerings will return next week.

Kathy Barnes of So-Koi not only helps out at the Markets, she is also the wonderful lady that makes the great lanyards, aprons, pillowcases and tiny purse bags (for carrying your own sweeteners, salts, etc.) Check out her offerings that are all hand made with love!

Kathy is also coordinating the Group Buys for Real Salt and Einkorn Wheat. Sign up sheets will be on the Check out table at each Market.

… this and that …

I continually thank God for the many blessings He has bestowed on me in my life (which definitely includes the Market and all of the wonderful folks I have come to know). The coming month is bringing significant changes to my life and I know that I am in His hands and He will guide my steps and continue to bless me. I humbly ask for your prayers as I negotiate through it all. I am here to serve you, the Members and the Farmers.

The Black Lab has been cursed with fleas! He is 9 years old and we have never had this issue! ARGH! Spraying, vacuuming, using DE powder, baths…I did not need this added to my already chaotic schedule! He is not happy and neither am I!

I wish you all a happy Labor Day and a wonderful week! Don’t forget to Fly the Flag!

Thank you for taking the time to read this long missive…
